Who is Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube

Neal Mohan, the CEO of YouTube, was born in 1973 and raised in Hyderabad, India. He had a passion for technology from a young age, often tinkering with electronics and computers. In 1986, his family immigrated to the United States, settling in Oak Brook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

Early life

Mohan went on to study at Stanford University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1996. After graduation, he joined Accenture, a global management consulting firm, where he gained experience in the technology and financial services industries.

Early career

In 1997, Mohan joined a startup called Net Gravity, which specialized in online advertising. He quickly became a key figure in the company’s operations and helped expand its prominence. Later that same year, Net Gravity was acquired by DoubleClick, and Mohan moved to the company’s headquarters in New York.

Over the next several years, Mohan became more involved in central business affairs within DoubleClick, eventually becoming Vice President of Business Operations. In 2003, he returned to Stanford to pursue his MBA, and after completing his degree, he rejoined DoubleClick.

DoubleClick

In 2007, Google acquired DoubleClick for $3.1 billion, and Mohan played a key role in the integration process. He managed the company’s acquisition of Invite Media in 2010 and eventually became Senior Vice President of Display and Video Ads at Google.

Mohan joined YouTube as Chief Product Officer in 2015, where he managed several of the company’s marquee products, including YouTube Music, YouTube TV, and YouTube Premium. In 2023, he was selected to succeed Susan Wojcicki as YouTube’s CEO, and he continues to lead the company with a focus on innovation and growth.
